Shades of Winter

Winter shades can be dark and a a tad drab. However this Autumn / Winter there are some interesting shades which will help boost the winter blues!

Let’s start with the seasons neutrals. This season, there are black items in the shops, but there is also a gorgeous array of coffee and cream shades too!

Cream trousers are great for autumn so these patch pocket jeans from Boden might hit the mark.

Or what about the chic trench coat dress from Reiss in a warm neutral caramel colour?

If you can take the deeper warmer golden and coffee browns then the zebra print top from Hush might appeal (they do this print in a dress, maxi skirt, scarf and tote bag too!)

This satin jumpsuit from Mango is a real subtle statement. Great for petites who can look taller when they wear the same colour head to foot.

Another key colour this season, and one that is often reserved for summer months, is luxurious pastel vanilla or buttery yellow. If you have a warm undertone to your skin, then this may be a useful alternative to beige for you.

Be Bright This Autumn & Winter

The catwalks this season were full of mood-boosting hues in every colour of the rainbow, so this season isn’t one for the faint hearted! It’s not just the catwalks, but our local shops are full of exuberant colours.

And as the weather turns colder, there’s no better time to add a splash of colour to your outer wear. So here’s my latest top picks of bold coloured coats:

One of the biggest colours this season is bright eye-popping hot pink. This will work for you if you have pinky tones to your skin. This 80s inspired jacket from BA&SH hits this trend perfectly

Or you can update your neutral coloured winter coat with a bold pop of colour. This hot pink beanie will work perfectly with a grey, navy or black coat

Christmas Jumper Style!

Christmas jumpers have gone off the ‘boil’ over the last few years – but I’m predicting a Christmas jumper revival this year (you heard it here first!) – as we are all planning and hoping to have the best Christmas ever to make up for lockdown Christmas of 2020!

As ever I like to give advice on how to look good no matter what the occasion – and Christmas jumper season is no different! Just because you are having fun with your clothing doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t look great yourself.

So here’s my best picks of Christmas jumpers this season.

If you suit dark colours, you probably have dark hair and eyes – and this super fun Christmas wreath jumper from George at Asda will work brilliantly with your hair and eye colour, and really enhance that natural depth that you have in your colouring.

Whilst if you prefer a more subtle festive vibe, then this relaxed fit silver star jumper from Hush is perfect.

Wear Your Greens!

In the world of fashion, colours that reflect nature have been trending for a while now – some say it’s been reflecting the desire for comfort and stability during the uncertain times we have been living through.

In this AW21 season, we are seeing nature colours like green continuing to trend – but with wider and more diverse shades of green.

Pantone announced its AW21 colours which included the core colour of ‘Olive Branch’ – a tasteful green symbolic of growth, alongside ‘Green Bee’ – a grassy green that perpetuates nature.

So whether you are already a green fan, or the shade makes you think of your old school uniform – this season is the season to GO GREEN.

So here’s my tips on how to look great in green this season.

Greens this season aren’t just the deeper, darker shades that you can often associate with autumn/ winter fashion – this season the shades also include lighter (and brighter, but more on that later) shades. One of my personal favourites is this mint coloured biker jacket from the French fashion brand Captain Tortue. Not only is the colour perfect, it’s also a great layering piece which will take you right through to Spring. Dress down with jeans, or wear with a floaty dress to elongate your summer wardrobe.

Another great layering piece for those of you who prefer a lighter green is this super snuggly cardigan from White Stuff. The leaves pattern is perfect for Autumn!

If you have dark hair and dark eyes then a deeper shade of green will emphasise those features, and look great on you. I love this animal print midi dress from M&S. Animal print continues to trend in AW21, and this dress can easily be layered up (underneath as well as over the top) and worn all through the season.

Checkmate!

As an Image Consultant, I love the change in Seasons! But this one has been quite a challenge!!

The AW20 season hit the catwalk back in Feb, and since then our shops have not only faced the challenge of covid19, they have also had to take the catwalk trends and shape them into wearable pieces for us everyday. Also during this time, how we have dressed has changed, with more home working – some of us will be happy with this, whilst others will be wishing to get back to their ‘normal’ dress code and the desire to get out and about again.

One element that came through the catwalk trends was a continued focus on sustainability, and pieces that are more classical and wearable over time. CHECK is a key ‘trend’ for AW’20. Check never goes out of style for long, which is presumably why with sustainability and a more seasonal-less approach to dressing, it was thought that AW’20 was the perfect time to bring it back to the foreground.

Checks are an easy pattern for even a print-avoider to incorporate into their wardrobe. However as ever there are some keys tips for getting the most out of this trend for you personally.

Colour checks:

If you suit dark colours, you probably have dark hair and eyes – and this cape jacket from River Island is a great throw on over everything from jeans to a pencil skirt

Whilst if dark colours overwhelm you, you probably have blonde hair and light eyes, and hence something like this fitted jumper from Marks & Spencer will balance out your delicate colouring. Its super soft, so great for the autumn days ahead, and whilst the design is bold but the lighter colours make it easy to wear.

This Seasons Party Tricks

Well hello party season! How we do love you! This time of year often gives us the opportunity to get a bit dressed up – whether we have a party to go to or not – as it is the season where we can add a touch of glamour and shimmer even if we are on the school run, nipping to the shops, or having a quick coffee catch up with our friends! This is particularly true this year, with the autumn / winter catwalks showing lots of ways to dress up the everyday outfit, and as ever the catwalk trends have made their way to our local shops.

So what does this party season look like?

Enter the party in style:

Capes are not only bang on trend this season, they easy slip over whatever your outfit. This cape from Joules (available from your local Next) not only ticks the checks trend, also the faux fur trend this season.

This season the key outerwear accessories are colourful gloves. These gorgeous and super soft leather gloves from John Lewis come in a wide range of colours – so there is bound to be one that suits you!

The Main Event:

To Mix or to Match? The key question for Autumn / Winter’19

When its the start of a new season, its always best to remember what makes you uniquely you. We don’t want to be clones of each other – we want to be the best version of ourselves. Helping my clients do this is what makes me really happy as an Image Consultant and Personal Stylist.

Now is also a great time to have a declutter – so you know what you have, and what you might want for the new season to refresh your wardrobe to ensure you look current, and like the well dressed woman you want to be perceived as.

Each new season, the fashion industry and retailers bombard us with images of whats ‘hot’ right now. How I tackle the new season, is to work with my clients to see how they can incorporate the latest trends into their wardrobe, whilst still feeling like themselves.

This Autumn/winter season we are seeing two opposing trends that I want to focus – to help you understand which might be ‘the trend’ for you. These 2 trends are ‘Mixing Patterns’ and the ‘Tone On Tone Look’:

The new Autumn/Winter 2018 Trends: Go wild! Animal prints and checks enjoy a renaissance for the new season

As much as I’ve enjoyed such a glorious long, hot Summer, I’m actually pretty pleased that Autumn is finally showing its face. This is undeniably my favourite season! I’m so relieved to be waving goodbye to those hot humid nights of precious little or no sleep, and welcoming the crisp mornings, dew on the grass, and piles of crunchy golden leaves to stomp through.

Every change of season heralds a new range of fashion collections, and as a personal stylist and image consultant that sets my trend-spotting antenna buzzing! And the new Autumn/Winter 2018 season has not disappointed. I’m thrilled that prints have remained firmly on the menu in just about every couture collection doing the rounds of the catwalk shows.

If you attended one of my Spring/Summer styling sessions, you will remember my advice on how to wear patterns. Anyonecan wear a pattern, you just need to choose carefully according to your shape and style personality.

This Autumn you will see patterns wherever you look, so if its not something you would ordinarily consider I encourage you to think about it now. Some of the new trends are already hitting the High Street, and the two main patterns I want to highlight are animal printand checks.

The Not-So-Quiet Colour Revolution for Autumn Winter ‘17

One of the best things about being a personal image consultant – apart from meeting my lovely clients of course – is that a couple of times a year I get to preview the upcoming fashion trends. I go to catwalk shows with my Colour Me Beautiful colleagues, try out the latest wardrobe styles, accessories and make-up, get up close and personal with gorgeous new merchandise and compare notes with other expert personal stylists. I love my job!

But while I’d love to tell you that I’m hanging out with models, deisgners or even shopping all day, what I’m actually doing is studying the trends. The core part of my job is to pick out the key looks and translate them into what works for ordinary people, like you and me, taking into consideration our colouring, shape, style personality and lifestyle.

So let’s start with the colours for the AW ‘17 season

There’s lots of talk of the “big” colours for this year, with red being at the top of every designer’s list. Actually, it’s not just at the top of the list: it’s standing in four-inch stiletto heels, pinning the rest of the list down, adding another coat of lippy and shouting “Look at meeeee!”

Red is a great colour, anyone can wear it, and personally I love a bit of red to brighten up an outfit, even if it’s just some red lipstick. It can lift me up, boost my confidence and send me out into the world with a big, self-assured smile.

But I realise red isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some women just don’t feel right in red and if this is you then there’s no need to feel left out or let down. Because standing next to Red, holding her jacket and egging her on is…… (drum roll) …. Navy!

Pucker up – It’s Party Season!

It’s the Party Season, and many of us LOVE getting dressed to the nines and heading out on the town during the festive season. A bit of sparkle, a fabulous pair of shoes and a killer dress all make for the perfect party look.
